Public bar & kitchen

an addition to that inconspicuous corner block of contemporary fine dining is
Public bar & kitchen (above Tank restaurant )

with only a simple wooden divider instead of traditional walls
the volume of space is open & inviting
creating a generous entry gesture

‘their library of drinks’

the interior is cosy with understated elegance & style
high vaulted ceilings decked with industrial chic cage lighting,
large loft style windows allows natural light to flood in,
creating a clean and luminous aura
I overheard the hostess say
‘Vogue was having a shoot here last week (!)
and they said we have the best lighting they’ve encountered so far!”

exposed chipboard walls
cleverly juxtaposed with luxe button-back fixed seatings

I was never a fan of peacock rattan chairs,
though the hollow structure was probably selected
to increase the transparency of the space
(so as to not block the street view)

visual highlights:  apothecary bottles, taxidermy on suitcases & typewriters

hi! didn’t I see you on etsy? : )

Public has just been rewarded their first
Hat at the Australian Good Food Guide Awards and Best New Restaurant 2012 -
a testimony to the care and craft that have gone into
ensuring an impeccable quality in their food & drinks

these were sincerely, litte bites of heaven
little caviar of olive oil with lightly seared scallops & squid

seared barramundi with jamon, crispy and tender
I love that all food are served on these slates -
being both rustic and sophisticated at the same time!

the drinks were equally satisfying
(the bartenders really put their elbow grease into the shaking!)

mandarin gimlet

‘view of the bar at night’

hello subway tiles, I dig you very very much

foodies are responding to its call …
